Kaine Lombard, WR , has been underrated his whole life, but somehow he has always risen above expectations. Many that know Lombard personally do not see this as a surprise as they always knew he was destined for greatness. Now at Chowan University he is doing what he has always done which is, show up on the football field giving his all and making a huge impact. We were able to ask Lombard a few questions to which he happily responded. When did you first fall in love with Football? I fell in love when I was younger, I just like to play sports but I fell in love with the contact that involved football. This may sound funny but I like the fact that I could hit someone legally and not get in trouble for it. That made the game interesting for me and I just love the noise shoulders pads and helmets created. When did you realize that this sport is something that you can really be good at? I realized I could be good in anything if I put my mind to it. I always remembered my mother repeatedly telling me that I can be good in whatever if I focused on it. So football was my favorite sport and I realized I could take this to the next level because I was always someone the coach relied on or expected to make plays from pee wee football to where I'm currently at now. Coming from an area that the talent was very high how did you stand out enough to make it to the next level? I just always worried about myself. I never cared who did what. I just knew if I worked hard and perfected my craft that I couldn't be denied an opportunity towards achieving my biggest goals. What and who are your biggest inspirations? What inspires me? My mother of course. She inspires me to be the best individual I can be. There's nothing like a woman who knows football. And trust me my mother knows everything I know. I never had a father growing up so she was always was hard on me about being the best "I" could be and not worry about anyone else. She inspires me because she fought so hard to help get me in the position I am today and always reminds me that where I want to get will not be easy. What are your short term and long term goals? Short term, I would love to play this game called football as long as possible and be great while I'm doing it but my long term goal is to be a great coach. I just feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge about this game and I would love to help young men be better in life on and off the field with the knowledge I've obtained over the course of my life involving football. How would you describe Chowan Football? I would describe Chowan football as a blessing because they gave me an opportunity. They believed in me and I appreciate that I'm a Chowan Hawk. Who are you close with on the team? I'm close with my team in general but I would say Davon Robinson because we started this journey together coming in as a freshman and him being from the 757, so we can relate easily. What are your plans for this upcoming season? My plans are to be the best in the conference next year, I finished top 5 and I wasn't even close to being satisfied. So I'm going to work even harder this summer to get where I want to be. And of course, I want to be a champion after this season, who doesn't? In a nutshell, who is Kaine Lombard? Kaine Lombard is a self-motivated competitor who is always focused and always willing to learn more throughout life. Lombard has a bright future ahead of him, and I am talking way beyond this season. We can not wait to see what great things you have in store.
